NCECA 2012- Be there!

Hey All,

I want to invite everyone to come to our talk next week at NCECA in Seattle.

Myself (Matt Katz), Dave (Finkelnburg) and Bill Carty are presenting our Lecture/Panel "So You Want To Talk About Glaze Chemistry?" On Thursday the 29th at Noon in Ballroom 6A.

It is going to be a great talk, Dave is going to speak on "How Glazes Melt". Talking about the ins and out of how materials do their thing in the kiln.

I have a talk about Mid-Temperature glazes. I have done some research that I am really proud of. I take a look at how Mid-temperature glazes work. Exploring how we get glazes that perform well at Mid-Temperature. Also examining some of the unknown pitfalls in durability and safety in Mid-temperature glazes that is right before our eyes and we don't even know about it!

Finally, Bill Carty is going to present his fantastic research on "Forensic Ceramics". Where in he was able to discover the methods and techniques of 12th Century Korean ceramics, using modern ceramic science. And how those techniques effect us today.

All of this will be capped of by a Q&A lead by our friend Tina Gebhart.

So please come on by and see our talk! And if you see us wandering around, please feel free to stop us and says hi or ask us any questions you may have.

See you in Seattle!

I'm Back!

Hi All,

It's good to be home. I had a fantastic time at NCECA. Thanks to all the people who came to our lecture. We had an astounding turnout and I was really happy to have you all there. Except for a few technical snafus it went off without a hitch.

I was extremely excited to meet everyone who introduced themselves to me. It is really hard to not have faces to put to all of you. So getting the opportunity to talk you everyone was fantastic. Y'all were very kind and friendly and I was just tickled.

I have lots of new stuff to show and talk about. I'm going to start with one new that that launched while I was away.

As I have discussed before, we all need to expand our constructive conversation in our little community. Ceramics Arts Daily has launched a new message board. In the spirit of honesty, they have asked me to moderate the technical section of the site. I hope to have a productive discussion and help to advance the tech talk in ceramics. The Boards already have 775 members as of this writing, and that is a great start to the community,

I have to admit that I was a little dispirited at NCECA with a few of the conversations I had and some talks that I saw. I found that a lot of the tech talk was saturated with ceramic mis-information and myths being taught as truth. We all need to take it upon ourselves to learn as much good information as we can and to put the falsities to bed.

So I will see you all there.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

As many of you know, this week brings to us the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts on Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is a time to meet, greet and soak up some educational content.

In the spirit of education we encourage each and everyone one of you to attend our talk in Ballroom B at 11am on Thursday the 1st of April. My partner Dave and I will be presenting a lecture entitled Sexy Bodies-Making Excellent Clay. We are going to talk about the science behind clays and how to make the better. It is going to be a wicked awesome talk and we hope to see you there. We would love to meet all of you so stop by after and introduce yourself.

We also encourage you to stop by Ballroom B on Friday April 2nd, from 10-11:30 for the Panel: Ceramic Technology- Material Issues. Moderated by Jonathan Kaplan, with John Britt, Angela Fina, and Jeff Zameck. We think there will be some interesting discussions about the importance of processing and technology in clays and materials.

We hope to see you all in Philly and please stop us and say hello!

See you there

NCECA Pre-Conference: You know you want to.

Hola, Katz and Kittenz

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We had a fantastic time with Mr. Chris who unfortunately is on his way back to Vacationland as I type. My favorite quote from the weekend was "I didn't realize that Alfred was so...small..."

Anyhoo, today's news is important for all of you, but especially those of you who are trying to make a go of ceramics as a lifestyle. Friends of Slipcast. Michael Connelly and Alleghany Meadows are putting together a Pre-Confernece Meeting with a very important subject.

NCECA- Illedelphia

Hey All,

I'm back! New Hamster was great, Relaxing, playing with the kiddos.
We brought The Hounds (Flash and Sophie) who had a great time hunting chipmunks and snoozleing in the sun.
Now back to the real world and my dirt.

Last Night I got my conformation that our presentation for NCECA Philly has been accepted. We are going to be doing a presentation on clays entitled "Sexy Bodies:Making Excellent Clay" So I will see you all at the 44th Annual NCECA Conference being held at the Philadelphia Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, March 31 to April 3, 2010.
Everyone should plan on attending. If you don't know. Philly has turned into quite a ceramics town. Lots of great ceramicists like my friends Rob Sutherland and Michael Connelly, along with Facilities, like The Clay Studio, have turned it into the place to be for contemporary clay. Also showing that ceramics can exist in the city.
