Pain in the Ass

Porcelain is hard. That is all I have to say .

These porcelain stools were designed by Judith van der Boom.

From the Original Posting.

"The collection is about bringing porcelain in a wider usage, expanding through old techniques the wider possibility of landscapes of porcelain. The collection relates to the collection “Qing Zuo” that was made nu Judith van den Boom in 2008, with theme of connecting in natural ways to the landscape of sitting. Using the natural quality of strength, pureness and softness of porcelain with a combination of soft flowing shape and a natural form of sitting. For these reasons we used a direct hands- on way of model making while working in Jingdezhen, China. Through not by making sharp lines in the models but by keeping the shadows in the glaze and form very soft, forms were created with simple connection to your hands and body."

The process of making takes you through all layers of place, process, material, socialness and culture and that’s a group you can’t force into a shape being visible for the viewer. The making of the collection Porcelain Topographies was a team effort that brought together the expertise of different people in the Netherlands, China and Germany. Through great support, work and enthusiasm of a special group of people and organizations it was possible to realize this collection.

Action-Reaction

This is an excellent display of a symbiotic relationship between plate and table.

The Nervous System created this table to go with their Reaction Series of dishes.

Practicle? No.
Sexy as hell? Awwww Yeah.

Table the Motion

This table by designer Elad Kashi is actually a collection of plates held together by a wooden frame.
It really does make the clean up a lot easier.

Bulldog Skin

I played the part
I played the start
I made a table out of clay

-Guided By Voices, Bulldog Skin

I always loved that lyric. As a Ceramical person it has always seemed as a Sisyphean challenge to actually do that. Yet, there is always a clever person willing to take up the challenge and make it happen.

As I prepare to start teaching foundations tomorrow. I love the approach or round about thinking. I hope I can encourage my students to think in such terms.

I can't find much about the maker except that her name is Arianna Vivenzio and she has a multimedia design portfolio that you can see here.

Left Over Art

As those of us in the states recuperate from one delectable holiday and prepare for another we stumble across Left Over art. Dinner fodder is both a blessing and a shameful reminder of how good we all have it.

When I was a teenager we used to do this at the restaurants we hung out at. I don't think the wait staff appreciated all that we as customers had to offer...

Making Faces

These plates are listed as for children.
I for one am extremely offended by that, I'm as juvenile as any 3 year old! I like playing with my food!

Yes, the are ceramics and not plastic. On a Kids plate! I know, I couldn't believe it either.
