Mrs. Rose... You know she's the coolest.

Y'all know how proud I am of my Mrs. Rose. She is super fun, super smart and she treats me real nice. But that does nothing to describe the skills she has when it comes to ceramics.

Mrs. Rose works as the Glaze designer for Trikeenan Tileworks, and some of her recent projects were just featured on the mega design blog Apartment Therapy. So, of course I have to show her off, because I am so proud of her and all of her work.

They are doing some really cool things with their tiles. They have reconsidered their waste and how to take advantage of it. What they come up with is their new Reclamation line of glazes. This line is composed of waste run off and colorants and that's it.

The tiles had their big public introduction as the Covering trade show recently and they won a green award for this line of glazes.

It a really wise and beautiful line and Mrs. Rose has done a great job with it.I'm so proud of her.

Center of attention

I stumbled across this neat little center piece on a post from Apartment Therapy. The original story was discussing a blog named homehomemade.com and their attempt to recreate a pricey Marc Jacobs candelabra set. I have no problem with the original or it's price, I love the concept as it it. It is a playful and interesting center piece. An aftermath of the baccanale.

I've been thinking a lot about re-purposing recently. We are laying out plans for our downstairs bathroom. Mrs. Rose and I are looking at a nice porcelian floor tile and talking about accents. I have been thinking "Why not China Paint or Decal the accents?" It's not like we don't have the tools and the know how.

Frankencups

Morning All,

Sorry for the delay, I had an appointment with the Dentist and the Hook of Death! I want to say that it is the good kind of pain, because it is for a productive reason, but DAMNNNN, that thing hurts. The good news is that I don't have any cavities and I got a Spider man toothbrush!

I really should do something about dental porcelain, but I really don't know anything about it.
Hmm. something to look into.

For today I present to you the High Cup, or the Frankencup. The fun little amalgams come from England designed by Hrafnkell Birgisson Hrafnkell. Although are pricey are pretty fun. I just hope they use a strong epoxy.

Gray Water

This Umbrella Stand collects the water that drips post puddle jumping excursion. The water then drains into the lower dish to water the plant.

Forced Entropy

These plates are made by British designer Natalie Moore. She reclaimed Salvation Army plates and sandblasted them down.

She's Crafty!

Nice reuse for a tea cup. Seems like a good thing to do, with the last cup in a set or something you find at a second hand store.
See the whole process documented at Craftzine, by Jenny Ryan.

The Answer

To the previously posed question what is it.
What we have here are speakers, that are made from octopus traps.
Pretty cool.

Chipper

Anyone who has taken my materials classes will know that a chipped plate is not necessarily a bad thing. Chipping releases the tension that build up in the tension of a plate rim and keeps the whole plate from breaking. These plates from The Ornamented Life accent that detail beautifully.

Great Idea

I'm not sure who makes this but is featured at the Good Hotel in San Francisco. The original post says that these sinks are common in Japan. I can see why, it is a really simple idea to use the water to fill the tank to clean your hands. What a great way to conserve water. So smart.
