Sweet, Sweet Nectar

A friend recently gave us a pottery juicer, but not as a present, just as something she left at the house. It just mysteriously appeared after a visit.  Like the vegetables from your garden in August that you just want to get rid of, so you leave them at friends houses.
After a week I asked
"... Ummmm, What is this doing here? " 
"Oh, because you guys have all the ceramics..."
" Ok... so why is this here?" 
"I thought you would like it"
"But it is ugly, and not particularly functional"
"But, it is clay"
"So I want every piece of clay out there, because it is clay?"
At that point she crumbled and admitted that it was from her Mother-In-Law and she was trying to pass the ugly buck.


We were re-gifted, for the sin of being ugly. 


Of course, none of this would have been a problem is it was a super cool hummingbird juicer like this one from Z Gallerie.

Get a Handle on Things

Decent Exposure

This series of shallow bowls is called "Every Drop Counts" and allows the consumer to expose the story as they slurp their soup.

I have to admit that I am a sucker for story telling. I really don't think that there is enough storytelling in Art, but specifically Ceramics. It seems that too many people are concerned with the conceptual one-liner. This takes a nice twist by incorporation function and time, yet the simplicity of a silhouette.  Well done.

Radi 8

OMG I'm dying with the dryness right now. Not to get to graphic, but it is bloody nose season, and man do I suffer. We have a humidifier, but it only does so much. That is why I love these functional attachments for those of you out there who have radiators. Designed by Il Coccio Design Collective these white porcelain receptacles sit on the radiator and allow the heat to do the work for you. All while appearing excessively fashionable.

SPOON!

Asian dinner utensils are awesome. I've always said that I want to be a ceramic engineer in Asia because the don't have to worry about metal marking problems (no knives at the table).   The table relies on the chopstick and the spoon, Designer Aïssa Logerot has come up with an evolutionarily design, combining the two. 

 

 

I have to admit, that I do have some reservations about the design. It seems like the spoon might fall off the end of the chopsticks, and that long handles does not suit how porcelain spoons are handled. None-the-less, this is a pretty interesting design.

Four and Twenty Blackbirds...Well Just One

This pie plate with blackbird steam vent is precious. I wish I liked pie more. I am a cake man, through the last few years I have learned that there is a divide in this country. Cake vs. Pie. Now Pie is just fine, but cake, Cake is where it is at. In fact this makes me think that I should do a post on cake plates. Of course, Mrs Rose and I are on a serious slimming project so we can't eat any of it. Soon, my sweet, soon.

Light My Fire

These porcelain fireplace logs called Adieu by Materious in the forms of various styles of broken down table legs are some of the more interesting things I have come across in a while. They take the notion of the Klein Reid Campfire logs to the next post-modern level.
We all talk about the notion of clay, history and function, but it is difficult to make objects that active engage all of those subjects in a way that move the discourse forward. The ability to have objects that comment on the home and the progress of art makes these something special. Even if you are not a cynical as I am, these are great a ceramic objects.

I love fun objects that are also well designed. This mug by Kedo out of Taiwan, incorporates a fun suit and button design, that doubles as a functional anchor for the string of a tea bag. Really cute and lots of fun.
